We are a startup looking to innovate the way that pet owners are reconnected with their pets when they go missing. The idea is to create a master database of pets such that a found pet can be reconnected with its owner by matching characteristics of the found pet with existing pets in the database via an advanced search feature.
This feature addresses the problem of pets that go missing without tags and/or when someone cannot get close enough to a pet to read its tags or take it to a vet to have it scanned for a microchip.
The business revenue will be generated in the form of registration fees when a pet owner adds their pet's profile to the database. A portion of all profits will be split evenly between the ASPCA and the National Humane Society.
Approximately 5 million to 7 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year, and approximately 3 million to 4 million are euthanized (60 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats). Shelter intakes are about evenly divided between those animals relinquished by owners and those picked up by animal control. These are national estimates; the percentage of euthanasia may vary from state to state. Our goal is to drastically reduce these statistics as they apply to pets that have gone missing.
