The Barnes Foundation was established by Albert C. The Brandywine River Museum will partner with Stoney Bank Nurseries to create a Flower Show exhibit. The Brandywine River Museum presents American art highlighting the Brandywine region, illustration, and still life in a converted gristmill on the banks of the Brandywine River. Best known for its collection by three generations of the Wyeth family, the Museum owns and offers public tours of the N.C. Wyeth House and Studio, Kuerner Farm, and Andrew Wyeth Studio. Since 1971, the Museum has presented many fine exhibitions across the full range of its collection. Today, it builds upon its tradition of excellent programming by developing a program of contemporary art and exploring the connections between art and environment.

The Grounds for Sculpture, located in Hamilton, New Jersey (midway between Philadelphia and New York), is a forty-two acre sculpture museum, garden, and arboretum on the former site of the New Jersey State Fairgrounds. Founded by Seward Johnson to promote an understanding and appreciation of contemporary sculpture, GFS has been engaging visitors since 1992. Grounds For Sculpture features more than 270 contemporary sculptures and five galleries with rotating exhibitions. In addition, the park offers workshops for children and adults, concerts, performances, fairs, shopping and fine dining at the Zagat’s-rated Rat’s Restaurant.

The Frank Lloyd Wright-designed landmark architecture and Kandinsky paintings on view at our exhibition, Kandinsky in Paris 1934–1944, will inspire the designers’ installation. Both Frank Lloyd Wright and Kandinsky were inspired by basic organic shapes such as a circles found in nature. Wright’s spiral design recalled a nautilus shell, with continuous spaces flowing freely one into another. Kansinky’s Dominant Curve, 1936 exemplifies the artist’s use of abstract organic shapes. In his treatise, On the Spiritual in Art, 1911 Kandinsky wrote about the ability to elicit specific responses from viewers of his canvases through the evocative power of carefully chosen and dynamically interrelated colors, shapes, and lines. The inner vision of an artist, he believed, could be translated into a universally accessible statement.

Showcasing the work of local to international artists, the Davenport and Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Galleries present nearly 20 exhibitions throughout the year. The adjoining Gallery Shop provides a venue for artists to sell their work and a place where buyers can purchase unique crafts.
